Skirts for women of various sizes and designs have been popular for a long time, starting some where around middle ages in Europe to be precise. But the first few hundred year’s skirts were generally worn to be very long, so long that it dragged on the ground and covered the feet.

The hemline hardly changed until the beginning of the 20th century. At that time the hemline was raised to above the ankles. This was the first big design change for skirts for women. The boldest trend in skirts for women started in the 1960’s when the mini skirt came about, although the ancient Chinese were the first to wear the miniskirt.

The amount of different designs for skirt seems to be limitless proving the staying power and versatility of this basically simple design. Although skirts traditionally are considered to be women’s clothes one can find men wearing them also in many Asian countries. Those skirts are of the basic design where cloth is wrapped and tied at the waist and goes as far as the ankles. In the U.S wearing skirts with leggings is very popular, it looks trendy and it is a good protection against the cold weather.
